This Year's Theme:
Communication: The Key to Understanding
Communication has come a long way to the modern day world. We have now, instead of a Pony Express, the Internet, which can send people messages from across the world, and they can receive them within a matter of minutes. The telegram, though complex, is simple compared to our modern day communication devices. Within a series of clicks on a telegraph, we could communicate, and now, just a few buttons on a telephone, and the receiver can hear our actual voice. Our government, and others, have not stopped wiretapping, and even now we can understand plots and plans of the mischievous. My topic relates to this year's theme, because the Zimmermann Telegram was the key to understanding the First World War. Because of the Zimmermann Telegram, the British were able to outsmart the masterminds of the war, the Germans. Communication is the act of communicating which is somehow making a message get across. The message that got across in the Zimmermann Telegram was never meant to be discovered.
