When the theme of Communication in History: the Key to Understanding was introduced my mind went in several directions. I finally settled on deciding to research the history of hot air balloons and their use in the Civil War. I looked in the encyclopedia, and did online research to find out about the history of the hot air balloon. I discovered how it was invented, who invented it and how it changed into the modern day version. I also had first hand knowledge of how a balloon looks close up, and operates, as my father and brother had recently flown in one. I researched the use of the balloon in the Civil War as well as WWI. I then decided to also include a little about modern day history and how hot air balloons are currently being used in communication,
I compiled my data. I used the internet to download some graphics of hot air balloons. I also took pictures that my father had taken and scanned then into the computer for use in my website. I used Front Page to develop my web site. I first typed my narrative portion of my website. Next, I chose a background and applied it to my document. Then I went into the internet and downloaded graphics onto my website. Next, I retrieved the scanned pictures into my website. Lastly, I created the hyperlinks that would allow you to move from page to page within the website.
After placing first place in the Tulare country History day their was still a lot of preparation to still be done to my website. The first thing I did was add a few more pages, then I had to go on to the internet and gather more information for those pages I created, last I input all of my information onto the website
