Ships Present at Pearl Harbor, December 7th, 1941

Ship names that are marked with an asterisk were about twelve miles off the coast of Oahu. Ships that are marked with a number sign were sunk or destroyed during the attack on Pearl Harbor. All of the ships with a number sign were later raised and rebuilt, except the Arizona, Oklahoma, and Utah. which were raised but not rebuilt.

The U.S. carriers were not at Pearl Harbor. On November 28th, Admiral Kimmel sent the U.S.S. Enterprise under Rear Admiral Willliam Halsey, to deliver Marine Corps fighter planes to Wake Island. On December 4th, Enterprise delivered the aircraft and on December 7 the task force was on its way back to Pearl Harbor. On December 5th, Admiral Kimmel sent the USS Lexington with a task force under Rear Admiral Newton to deliver 25 scout bombers to Midway Island. The last Pacific carrier, U.S.S. Saratoga, had left Pearl Harbor for upkeep and repairs on the West Coast of California.
